mix ATF and Power Steering liquid in Steering System

I"ve read assorted threads in the past regarding people"s factors for making use of either ATF or strength steering fluid in the power steering system. Us all recognize that, in some of our cars, that is ATF that"s recommended in the manual. But, ATF formulations changed. So a the majority of us just use generic strength steering fluid....whatever"s cheap in ~ Walmart.My question: is there any problem through mixing the 2 fluids? If so, why?
