| mix ATF and Power Steering liquid in Steering System|
I"ve read assorted threads in the past regarding people"s factors for making use of either ATF or strength steering fluid in the power steering system. Us all recognize that, in some of our cars, that is ATF that"s recommended in the manual. But, ATF formulations changed. So a the majority of us just use generic strength steering fluid....whatever"s cheap in ~ Walmart. My question: is there any problem through mixing the 2 fluids? If so, why? My an approach of renewing the liquid is merely to drain and fill the reservoir periodically....I"m simply not interested in totally flushing the system. So, with the SDL ns just obtained (PO supplied ATF) ns was just going to start fluid renewals utilizing power steering fluid.

I run Dex3 or Prestone power Steering with "seal re-juvenator" (stop leak the doesn"t occupational by being stupid thick) and also I"ve occasionally used real MB PS fluid. Never ever had any kind of issues.

Since numerous MBs go to the junkyard without ever before having their PS fluid readjusted (Mercedes mentions only "checking" the liquid in their service manuals), anything friend do has gotta be far better than what wake up to other cars. If you have concerns, try mixing a little of the 2 fluids in a glass dish and also see what happens.I"ve provided both the "flush" and the "reservoir change" method. Both work. Jeremy

Disconnect the return hose from the pump and also place the in a pail.Get another person come sit behind the wheel.Get one gallon that PS fluid.Open lid on pump.Start engine and also ask other person to rotate wheel native left to ideal (and repeat number of times).Pour fluid as quick as necessary to avoid reservoir native going dry.Stop engine after around three quarts have been dumped.Reconnect return hose.Fill reservoir to required level.Install cap.Toss the end old transmission liquid (or burn that in the tank).Done.I"m tho unsure of why you desire to switch it come PS fluid? If the switch was made before the pump seals leaking, you might have an argument. But, the pump seals need to be done in any kind of case. The present ATF is pristine clean as result of the leak.FWIW, I perform not believe anyone have the right to state, for certainty, that the 2 fluids are certainly compatible v each various other over a lengthy time interval. Personally, I would not mix them.
